Avon MagiX Multi Benefit Illuminator

Hello beauties! I hope you’re all well. So I’ve been using this illuminator for a while now, and I actually wrote a review on it… But it got deleted! Never mind, you’re getting it now! I brought two of these in a recent Avon Haul.. Why two? Because it’s amazing.. Frankly!

image

image

Liquid highlighter, formulated with special light reflecting particles to give skin a radiant and illuminated appearance. With HD Finish Complex to blur the appearance of pores, lines and imperfections.

Application
Apply to brow bone, bridge of nose and chin for a glowing look. Highlight cheekbones by applying to the highest point and blending outwards. Define lips by applying to Cupid’s bow. Gently dab on under eye area to camouflage dark circles.

Review
I’ve mostly been using this for the dark circles under my eyes. Every now and again I’ll use it as a highlighter… But I think this product really shines for me when I haven’t had much sleep! Which is hardly ever since I hate going to bed early..
The thing that attracted me to this is that it doubles up as a concealer, which made me quite curious. I’ve always been under the impression that you keep your highlighters away from your imperfections… But this one is different. It totally works both ways! This isn’t glittery like other highlighters too, it leaves you with a subtle shimmery glow.
The applicator is great. It allows you to be very precise, which is especially good when highlighting. The formula is very creamy and light, but buildable.  It doesn’t cake, which is especially important when using it under your eyes.. No one wants to look like they have bags! It doesn’t dry out your skin, which is great for me since I have dry skin prone around my eyes. If you use liquid or mineral/powder foundation the Illuminator works well under both.  Not only does the formula have coverage, but it has a little iridescence, which helps facilitate in the coverage and brightening under the eyes.

Conclusion
This has become a staple in my makeup routine. I can’t do my make up without it! My eyes look so awake when I cover up my dark circles, and it highlights my cheek bones to sculpt my face. I love a good multipurpose product, and this is one of them! It is currently available from Avon for £8.50 but they can usually be found in some deals they have in the avon brochure. I couldn’t be within this gem! I would go as far as saying it’s a dupe for Yves Saint Laurent Touche Eclat. I used to buy that quite a lot and loved it. The only problem is the price. It’s not the sort of thing that I could keep repurchasing…Although I’d love to! This is a purse friendly dupe!

Have you used this? What do you think? Any highlighters/concealers you have been loving lately? Let me know!

February Birchbox First Impressions

Hello beauties! I hope you’re all well. So this month’s Birchbox felt quite heavy, which i always love! I know you tend to get more samples with Birchbox, but they have been great lately with their samples sizes!

image

With it being February, this boxes theme is love! It goes way beyond being limited to one day for valentines day, they’re talking about the things we love the whole month through. This month’s box contains skin saving creams, beautifying hair treatments, and a make up brand that they are very excited about. So lets get to what I received!

London Butterflies Whipped Body Cream

image

We pay plenty of attention to the skin on our face, but often forget about the rest of our body. Thankfully London Butterflies has exactly what your limbs need. Packed with nourishing ingredients like jasmine, starflower and almond oil, it sinks in quickly to rehydrate the skin and leave it super soft. Plus, the ultra indulgent scent has been specially created to relax both your body and mind.

I’d love to be able to comment on the smell of this, but I can’t smell a thing at the moment with this horrendous cold. However, I’ve tried a little bit on my hand and it soaked into my skin so quickly, I was quite impressed! And it’s a pretty decent size too! It’s a 30ml sample which I will get a few uses out of. The glass jar is very nice and it feels expensive. Full size is 170ml for £37.

TheBalm Cosmetics Stainiac in Beauty Queen

image

This two-in-one lip and cheek stain gives us a natural, understated flush and helps us get out the door faster! The gel formula looks dark in the tube but delivers a sheer tint. The tinted gel leaves a lasting stain on lips and cheeks. Since it’s water-based, it has a longer setting time than most quick-dry stains, which means it won’t leave any unsightly streaks behind as long as you take care to blend well. Use a single coat for a subtle look or layer it on for a more visible (yet still discreet) hue.

I’ve always stayed away from cheek stains. I don’t know why i just don’t like the idea of them. I’m trying to stay away from pinks with my blusher as I feel warmer tones suit me more.. But I’m looking forward to using this as a lip stain! This is a 1.2ml sample. Full size is worth £10 but doesn’t state how big a full size is.

Cynthia Rowley Beauty Eyeliner

image

Everyone has that forward-looking friend who can push them to take a style leap. We feel that way about fashion designer Cynthia Rowley. Having already proven her mettle as the creator of a high-performance makeup line, she’s breaking new ground with these playful yet stylish liners. These creamy pencils glide on velvety-smooth, and the smudge-proof formula lasts all day. In on-trend shades like rose gold and shimmery brown, they’re helping us push the beauty envelope—and the results are nothing short of eye-opening.

I’m so glad I got the black Eyeliner and not the silver. I’m not much or an experimenter with coloured eyeliners. I’ve got a stock pile of eyeliners to try out so it’s probably gonna take me a while to get to this one. This one is very creamy which I look for in an Eyeliner. This is a 0.3oz sample and looking on Birchbox website a full size is 0.04oz so not far off full size! Full size is worth £11

Liz Earle Beauty Co Botanical Shine Shampoo

image

Taking the same approach to hair as she has to skin, Liz Earle Botanical Shine Shampoo can be used on all hair types. Containing over 89% natural ingredients, the shampoo promises to cleanse and nourish hair in the same way as a traditional shampoo without any nasties.

I have only experienced Liz Earle skincare products, so when I found out this was a shampoo, I was immediately interested. If their shampoo is as good as their skincare products, my hair in for a treat. This is a 50ml sample. Full size is 200ml worth £10.

Caudalie Vinoperfect Radiance Serum

image

A highly concentrated, oil-free serum that improves the appearance of dark spots, promotes even skintone, and boosts radiance. What it is formulated to do: Highly concentrated with naturally powerful Viniferine, this satiny serum reduces the appearance of existing dark spots such as acne marks, scars, and damage revealing a brighter, more even complexion. What it is formulated WITHOUT: – Parabens – Sulfates – Phthalates

I have a few serums to get through but this is the first serum sample I’ve encountered in a tube which surprised me when I read what it was. I used a little on my hand and the only way I can describe it is a watered down moisturiser. Obviously I haven’t tried it properly yet to have a full opinion, but I did notice how quickly it sinked into my skin. This is a 10ml sample. Full size is 30ml worth £45. I think it’s a pretty good size considering full size is 30ml!

Vita Coco Coconut Oil (lifestyle extra)

image

Vita Coco, the company who first brought us delicious tasting coconut water, now brings to our shores its own brand of 100% Organic Coconut Oil. Cold pressed from Organic coconuts, 100% raw and extra virgin, this new addition to the Vita Coco Family is the perfect cooking oil and goes a long way to rescuing dry skin and hair – that’s why people swear by it!

I do love a good versatile product, but this is a weird one! On the packaging it says Eat it, Wear it, Swear by it. That got me interested! Even with this horrendous cold I can smell the coconuts, I did want to eat it! This is one of the vets lifestyle extras I’ve ever got. I’m so excited to try it out in all of its aspects!

So that’s my February Birchbox! I’m so happy with everything. Everything was a very good sample size and the lifestyle extra made it! I’m gonna get use out of everything which is always a bonus with these beauty subscription boxes. I’m actually looking for another box to subscribe to, so if you have any other suggestions of boxes to try (I already have Glossybox and you beauty  discovery box) let me know!

If you’re interested in subscribing to Birchbox, use my referral link and each of our accounts will be credited with £5 to use in the birchbox shop!

What did you get in this month’s box? Have you tried anything from my box? What did you think? Let me know!

What’s The Difference Between BB, CC & DD Cream?

image

I get asked about the difference between BB, CC & DD creams quite a lot. So I thought I would do a post about it for everyone that might not be too sure. These tinted creams have been around for a while now and have taken the beauty world by storm.

BB Cream

A little bit of information..
BB stands for Beauty Balm and it was originally developed in Germany. It was the start of many tinted creams. It was developed to be used for skin care following a cosmetic surgery procedure. It used to stand for Blemish Balm, until it hit the US, and there is was renamed. It firstly caught on in Korea, and then became a must have beauty product in most of East Asia. The product is alot different in Korea then the western version. They tend to be thicker with higher levels of zinc oxide and titanium dioxide for more opaque sun protection, and foundation-like coverage. They also produce a whiter appearance on skin. Western BB creams are more like a tinted moisturiser. Some people actually use it as a primer to get a fuller coverage, rather then switching to a heavier foundation.

What are the benefits?
It’s great if you have good skin and just want to have a bit of a glow. It provides some amount of coverage but leaves a more sheer finish. Obviously it all depends on different brands formulas, but what ever country you purchase this in, the popular benefits form using it is daily sun protection, skin lightening, extra hydration, and some have anti aging ingredients. Pretty much an all round product! Perfect for everyday use. I wouldn’t stop using your usual anti aging creams though, because there isn’t usually alot of anti aging ingredients in them. Use them as a supplement, not a replacement!

CC Cream

A little bit of information..
CC stands for Colour Correcting. After the beauty world exploded with its sister formula BB,  CC was created for those people that cried out for the same benefits, but with a fuller coverage. The first CC cream appeared in 2010 by the product of a Singapore-based brand Rachel K. They usually provide more coverage then BB creams, but this isn’t always the case.

What are the benefits?
It provides the same multitasking benefits as BB cream. They also contain ingredients that can cover flaws such as dark spots and redness, give life to dull complexions, and even out skin tone with light diffusing particles, while still feeling light weight.

DD Cream

A little bit of information..
DD stands for Daily Defence, but they are also sometimes known as Dynamic Do-All and Dermatologist’s Dream, depending on the brand. It’s the latest in this trend that isn’t as recognised as it’s predecessors.

What are the benefits?
They are supposed to provide more coverage then BB, but with more anti aging benefits then CC. They can also protect the skin’s barrier to prevent moisture loss, which is great for people with dry skin. But it’s stronget power is its anti aging claims. They usually have some combination of botanical oils, hyaluronic acid, antioxidants, and peptides. They are best used by people who want to focus on improving tone and diminishing fine lines and wrinkles overtime.

What BB, CC & DD creams have you used? Any you can recommend? Let me know!

January Birchbox First Impressions

Hello beauties! So I got Birchbox’s first box of the year and this month and it’s all about women’s health!

image

This month’s box is very exciting because they have joined forces with the experts and editors to bring you both products and content that will help you start the new year with your best foot forward.

Stila Lip Glaze

image

A converted, suits all complexions colour. This sheer gloss is a cult classic for a reason!

I’ve wanted to try Stila for a long time, every time I walk past their stand in Boots I always have a quick look. I’m not really one for lip glazes but I’ll I’m always open to new products! This is a 1.5ml sample. The full size is 2.4ml so it’s a pretty good sample size. The shade I received is called Gleam which is a lovely shimmery pink. It comes in 36 shades which all look totally wearable. Full size costs £15

Philip Kingsley Body Building Conditioner

image

Transform lifeless locks and help seal flyaways with this lustrous, wheat peotein conditioner.

I love Philip Kingsley products. I’m always up for trying out more of their range, and wheat is so good for your hair. I read once that models sometimes soak their hair in beer because of all the wheat in it.. Not that if want to try to because I’d smell like a brewery! This is a 20ml sample size which will probably only do my hair about 2 times. Sizes range from 75ml at £8.50 to 1000ml at £45.

Ren Glycolactic Radiance Renewal Mask

image

Radiance in a tube! A fast working, exfoliating treatment that improves texture, tone and combats congestion.

The one thing I am missing from my samples is a new mask to try out, so I was glad to receive this one. One of my new years resolution is to use more masks because I hardly ever use them. This is a 10ml sample, full size is 50ml at £30. This brand promotes clean skincare products, so they don’t contain any paraben, sulphates, mineral oil, petrolathum, synthetic fragrances, synthetic colours, T.E.A, D.E.A, glycols silicones and Pegs Et Al.

HealGel Intensive

image

Protect and restore skin with infusion of organic silicones, collagen boosting peptides and arnica.

This is a multi-purpose skin rescue gel packed full of active ingredients which work to restore, protect and soothe the skin. It takes me a while to get through creams because I have so many of them through thea  subscriptions. But I am interested by its claims of being scientifically-designed with complexes such as arnica and madecassoside which reduce puffiness and discolouration whilst soothing irritations and reducing sensitivity. This is a 5ml sample. Full size is 30ml at £37.50.

Activbod Cooling Finish Lotion

image

Re-energise after a work with this invigorating, menthol packed lotion.

Not gonna lie.. I don’t work out. It’s never really been something that’s interested me. I always used to say that I was going to join the gym, but I never did, so not sure how much use I’m gonna get out of this. Maybe in the summer? Let me know cause I’m pretty clueless to products like this. This is a 20ml sample. Full size is 100ml at £12.

Embrace Matcha Green Tea

image

Our new favourite superfood, Matcha is 100% natural with 10 times the antioxidants of regular green tea.

More tea samples! I really don’t like tea. More of a coffee person myself, so this is going to someone that enjoys teas!

Lifestyle Extra

image

I also for this pilates band! I’m not too familiar with pilates.. Again I’m not really into the whole gym thing, but it says it’s used for toning, increasing strength and improves muscle endurance with the stretchy resistance band. Not sure if I’m ever going to use this.. But if I ever decide to become a gym person I will have it handy.

So that’s all my products this month’s from Birchbox! All sample sizes this month, but they are all from high end brands which is good. I’m really excited to use the Ren mask and the Philip Kingsley conditioner so all in all, a petty good box! I think some of the fitness things might go to friends as I wouldn’t really get much use out of them, and the green tea I’ll donate to someone!

If you’re interested in subscribing to Birchbox, use my referral link and each of our accounts will be credited with £5 to use in the birchbox shop!

What did you get in this month’s box? Have you tried anything from my box? What did you think? Let me know!

December Empties

Hello beauties! I can’t believe it’s December already, I remember new years last year like it was a couple of months ago. So I only tend to do an empties every other month because I’m so awful at actually using stuff up! I never like to post our a few things so I like to save up for a nice bit post!

image

I’ve got a good mixture of products this month, ranging from make up, Bath products to Skincare products. I’ve got quite a lot this month so lets get into what I’ve used up shall we?

Makeup

image

I don’t know why I never use alot of make up. Maybe because I get bored of using one thing and I move onto the next.. But something I will always use up is foundation. The foundation I’m talking about is the Max Factor All Day Flawless 3-1 Foundation. I’ve done a full review of this that I’ve linked too. I’ve brought about three bottles and I’ve really loved it. It’s got a medium coverage, but it’s easily built up to a full coverage, it has concealer and primer fused in, and it lasts pretty well! But it’s time to move on! I’ve moved onto the Mac Studio Fix Fluid which I will be reviewing soon.

The next thing I used up is Maybelline Baby Skin Instant Pore Eraser. I’ve done a full review of this also. This is an easy on the purse primer. I did notice after a while of using it, it kinda dried my skin out after a while so I don’t think I’ll be buying this one again. I’m currently using Revlon Photoready Perfecting Primer which I’m really enjoying and I’m finding that because it not a silicon primer, it’s hydrating my skin more.

Bath Products

image

I love my bath products. Anything that makes me feel more relaxed is right up my alley. I love bath oils, so I got through this little beauty Kenipp Pure Relaxation Bath Oil pretty quickly. It smells gorgeous but unfortunately not very moisturising to skin. I’m currently using another which is extremely moisturising so it makes up! I actually for this in a set from Reify who is from Germany in our Beauty Swap, and I’ve actually seen that they have this brand in this month’s You Beauty Discovery Box! I’d advise anyone to get it!

The next item in my empties list is Avon Sense Passion Exotic Show Gel. The thing that annoyed me about this is that it’s a bugger to actually open! But on the upside it smells amazing so I won’t hold it against Avon! It smells so floral, I can smell it in the bathroom for hours after I’ve been in!

Skincare

image

The next thing I’ve used up is Simple Kind To Skin Soothing Facial Toner. I really try to take care if my skin, and toners are something i use everyday after washing my face. This is my second bottle of this now and it’s so cheap! You can get a 200ml bottle for a couple of quid. Toners restore the PH balance in your skin after you have washed it, so it’s always a good thing to use! I love simple as a brand. Definitely getting another.

You’ve seen me post about this and you know my views on it, I’m talking about the Benefit It’s Potent! Eye Cream. If you haven’t, I’ve linked it for you to check out. I received this in a Birchbox a while ago. I’m really disappointed with this because of the actual ingredients in it. Some people have commented saying they have had break out from this, and I’m not surprised with all the alcohol in this. I usually love benefit skincare products, and to be fair it is an alright moisturiser, but it just let’s it down with all the claims it makes when it’s just impossible with the lack of effective ingredients. I definitely won’t be buying this full size.

Haircare

image

This is always a section in my empties that’s always going to be jam packed! Mostly because of the amount of products i use on my hair to maintain it, but also because I have so much hair! The first product I’m gonna be talking about is Syoss Oil-In-Cream Remedy Mask. I recently did a full review of this that I’ve linked if you want to check it out. As you can see, I squeezed everything I could possible get out of this tube! I’ve really loved this. This is a Keratin products that repairs the structure or your hair. The really crap thing about my hair is that because I bleach is, it tends to snap off alot. From this, I feel that it never actually gets any longer! But when I went to visit my hair dresser, she actually said how long my hair had gotten! You never notice yourself, but after she said it, I agreed! And other people have noticed too. I got this again from Reify in our beauty swap. I’m on the prowl for another tube! Really loved this. If you can get your hands on this, send me a tube!

You all know I love a good hair mask. I really need them with my hair to hydrate it from what the bleach takes out, so I’ve been using Avon Heavenly Hydration Hair Mask. I’ve done a full review of this linked if you want to check it out. I’ve used another Avon hair mask which is the Blissfully Nourishing Hair Mask. While looking through the latest Avon brochure, I couldn’t find it! Which is gutting because it smells amazing, which is the only thing missing from the Heavenly Hydration Hair mask. It leaves my hair feeling so soft so at least it’s not a total loss! I’ll be buying another tub of this!

image

I’ve been trying to get thorough some of my shampoos that i haven’t used up. I tend to start using a shampoo, and then I buy another type and use that instead and so on.. It’s a vicious circle. The first one I’ve been using up is The Body Shop Banana Shampoo. I don’t think I’ve ever done a review on this because I’ve had it sat in my bathroom so long unfinished. Banana is one of those smells like marmite. You either love it or you hate it, and I love it. It’s not the best shampoo ever, and that’s probably why I swapped it for another shampoo, but it does smell yummy!

My next shampoo is one I’ve been loving for a while now, which is The Body Shop Ginger Anti Dandruff Shampoo. When I first started this blog, this was one of the first thing I reviewed. I have alot of trouble with dry skin on my scalp, and this seems to be the only thing that battles it, although it’s not the best for the colour in my hair so I try not to use it all the time, just when I start to get an itchy scalp. I’ll definetly be purchasing another one. I’m on the prowl for a shampoo that battles dry skin and also is suitable for colour hair, so if you know of anything let me know!

And finally! Last, but certainly not least.. My old friend Avon Advanced Techniques Moroccan Argan Oil. I’ve done a full review of this that I’ve linked. Again, this is one of the first things that I actually reviewed on my blog. I use this after I’ve washed my hair, which makes it easier to brush and leaves it silky soft when I’ve dried my hair. I can’t count the amount of bottles I’ve had of this, but it’s alot! It’s around £4 for a 30ml bottle and it lasts be a couple of months, so for anyone with thin hair it’s gonna last you so much longer then that. This is definitely one of my staple haircare products and nothing has come close to this.

Phew! That was long! Maybe I shouldn’t do one of these every other month! If you’ve used anything I’ve used up please tell me what you thought of it too! Thanks for reading x

Astor BIG & Beautiful BOOM! Volume Mascara Review

I received this in my beauty swap from Reify. This is one of the items I asked her for, I loved the packaging and it sounded too good to be true.. Check out what else I received in my beauty swap in my Part 1 & Part 2.

image

Big & Beautiful Boom! mascara delivers up to 10 times more explosive volume in a snap thanks to its exclusive over-sized “One-Coat Brush” and unique creamy amplifying and beautifying formula infused with plumping collagen. Lashes look lusciously large and flirtatiously full from the very first coat. If looks could kill, these excessive lashes would be deadly…

Review
Mascara is one of the things I will put on everyday when i leave the house, I couldn’t leave without it! I love the nylon bristle wand on this mascara. They help separate your lashes, so you don’t get those horrible clumps. The one coat formula helps with the clumping too, I find when you put a couple of coats on with mascara, it can clump and flake alot. Not with this. It also makes them look fuller and longer, I haven’t got the best eyelashes in the world, this comes from constantly wearing fake eyelashes a couple of years ago (don’t do it girls, only special occasions!) so this really helps me. I wouldn’t say my eyelashes were 10 times more explosive, but it really does make a difference. I love the packaging too. I never really comment much about packaging, because I’d rather comment on the product then what’s the product is in, but I just love the gold! It makes it feel expensive! The Astor marketers have really realed me in! I’m such a sucker for packaging.. I’ve been using this for about a month now and and 9/10 times I wouldn’t get black smudges under my eyes.

Conclusion
I’m so glad that i picked this item for Reify to get me in our swap. It’s no benefits They’re Real, but it’s a good alternative! The only thing that let’s it down is on occasions I’ll get smudges under my eyes, but that’s only 1/10 times. Everything else I love about it! I need to find somewhere on the Internet I can get another now..

What’s your favourite mascara at the moment? Have you tried this mascara? What did you think? Let me know!
